Winter Olympics – class Olympics?

Skiing gives my life meaning. But I've done it recreationally, and I've done it by not spending on other things and budgeting right. To train professionally, it requires a lot of money.

(Summer) Olympics sports can be done by people all around the world, anywhere. Even poor people can train. Of course, athletes who are wealthy or have proper state support have an enormous advantage. But training is possible for everyone, even without spending (much). Winter Olympics seem to be class Olympics.. Prefaced this with my LOVE for skiing, because I don't judge as an outsider or someone who snubs "rich people sports". But Olympics are supposed to be universal. And in sports competitions unfair advantage, e.g. by drugs, is prohibited. How is it fair for desert or poor countries competing against Alpine or rich ones? The former may not be able to produce any athletes to begin with. Not because they aren't capable or talented. But because they don't have the money to get equipment, stay close to relevant facilities, pay for those facilities, and train. I understand the joy of competing, and winning. But how can I be proud of winning, if half the world is excluded from a world competition, because they can't afford it, and then I'm supposed to be Olympic (that is, universal) champion? Isn't that rich people's games from which middle class, let alone working class, let alone poor people are excluded? Isn't it class Olympics? That all doesn't mean there shouldn't be international winter sports competitions. By all means! But maybe not as Olympic Games.
